Biennale of Contemporary Keramics 2026 | Rhodes Island, Greece

SAHA supports a new project by Elif Uras as part of Big Blue Dot: BCK 2026, curated by Stamatia Dimitrakopoulos, Loukia Thomopoulou, and Anissa Touati, and presented between 6 June - 31 October 2026.

Where the Day Starts brings together contemporary artists from across the Mediterranean who either live in one of the countries of the basin or maintain a meaningful connection to the region. Dedicated to promoting contemporary ceramics as an evolving art form, the Biennale moves nomadically across the Greek islands, drawing inspiration from each location’s distinct history, archaeology, mythology, and culture.

Elif Uras (b. Ankara) explores ideas of gender and class related to representation of women across differ- ent geographies and time. She often employs labor intensive intricate patterns on her forms inspired by diverse art historic sources including Prehistoric art, antiquity, Islamic geometry, Iznik tiles and Western modernism. Her work also engages with questions of tradition, ornament and labor, especially feminized labor.

About Biennale of Contemporary Keramics

The Biennale of Contemporary Keramics, organized by the civil non profit company Big Blue Dot, stands out for its decentralized and nomadic character. Like a wandering blue dot, it avoids being anchored in the Athenian metropolis. Instead, it takes place each time on a different island, drawing inspiration from the unique qualities of each location, including its archaeological past, myths, and history.
