SAHA supports Deniz Gül’s project, who is been selected by an international jury, organized in collaboration with Fundación Casa Wabi and ArtReview Open-Call Residency Prize 2022/23. Held between February 20 and March 30, 2023 in Mexico, the program encourages interdisciplinary encounters for local and international artists of different generations, stimulating experimental and creative concerns and contributing to the development of the sociocultural fabric of the region. Gül’s work which is developed within this program, planned to be included in the foundation’s collection.
Deniz Gül ( 1982, Izmir) is known as a conceptual sculptor and a writer. Gul’s practice comprises how language performs as text, sculpture and space. She is infamous by her novel like exhibitions that feature installations and sculptures speaking of structure, composition, form, consequence. The singularity of her practice lies in the thread she deploys in her works. Her act, which could be registered as processes, refers to her engagement with time and material. Gül actualizes her works with the craftsmen/craftswomen she works with and operates in between the threshold of the concrete and the poetic, the visible and the invisible.
About Casa Wabi
Fundación Casa Wabi is a non-profit, civil association thats fosters an exchange between contemporary art and local communities in three locations: Perto Escondido, Mexico City, and Tokio. Its name originates from the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, which seeks beauty and harmony in the simple, the imperfect and the unconventional. Their mission is focused on forging social development through the arts, which we carry out through five key programs: residencies, exhibitions, clay, films, and mobile library.
