Mustafa Boğa

Coventry Biennial | Birmingham, United Kingdom

SAHA supports the Coventry Biennial titled Obsessions, Possessions as part of Mustafa Boğa's new project. The 2025 edition, running from 3 October 2025 – 25 January 2026, will take place in numerous venues, including the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, The Coach House (an unused historic building located on the grounds of Charterhouse Heritage Park), Art Riot Collective, Coventry Cathedral, and the Delia Derbyshire Building.

For Coventry Biennial 2025, Mustafa Boğa presents a new series of freehand embroideries based on film stills from home movies of family events, weddings and parties. These new works particularly focus on moments of solitude, isolation and reflection within busy and vibrant family settings.

Mustafa Boğa is based between Adana and London. He holds two MAs, the first in Cinematography and Post-Production from Greenwich University, London and the second in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins. Mustafa’s work frequently delves into the themes and rituals of his upbringing, incorporating manipulated videos and photographs of family members, ornate wreaths typically encountered at weddings and funerals, and quilts embroidered with subversive motifs. These images, often brought to life through freehand machine embroidery, serve as reflections of his childhood memories in the southern region of Turkey.
