Alper Aydın

FATA MORGANA, Alper Aydın | Ordu, Turkey

SAHA supports the new project of Alper Aydın, alumni of SAHA Studio's first semester, August 2019 - February 2020. Fata Morgana will be exhibited between June 20 - August 20, 2023 in 4 main venues: Cape Jason, Taşbaşı Art Space, Jason Church, Cape Sülü. In addition to the exhibition, an artist's book is being prepared with photographs and information about the geography and photographs of the works spread across the spaces.

Fata Morgana, Alper Aydın’s first solo exhibition, takes its title from a rare aerial phenomenon. Formed by the vertical dispersion of air masses, it creates an optical reflection between layers of air at different densities thus, emerges as an object or a group of objects suspended above the horizon. The exhibition is conceived as a post-apocalyptic reflection of images about unusual scenarios. It examines the geological formation of the Earth, the myth of the creation of Adam and Eve, the dialogues established by humankind with nature and life, the traces of the Earth and the nature after human beings. On the basis of these contexts, the works in the exhibition will be on view in the open lands of Cape Sülü and Cape Jason where the artist was born and raised, as well as Jason Church and Taşbaşı Church.

Spreading over an area of approximately hundred hectares, the distances between the works do not only create a perception specific to the works, but also allowthe audience to explore the territory and feel the atmosphere. In this respect, besides being a phenomenon to witness, the exhibition focuses on a direct expression of the dialogue of nature, the sea, the volcanic rocks and the history of the region with the works. Fata Morgana- the widest solo public art exhibition in relation to land in the art history of Turkey-aims to provide a deep and spiritualized experience through the narration of a truth about our existence.
